HG doesn't need a skip!

Postby Helena » Sun Jul 25, 2010 8:12 pm

With reference to the section on here called The Skip....I don't think we need it!

My upstairs neighbour put a small round table & 4 chairs out in the front garden bit of the house this afternoon, just before I was about to have a bath. 30 minutes later, after I'd had my bath - all the chairs had gone!! :P We'll see if the table's there tomorrow morning!

We often put things out at the front of our home with a sign saying 'please take if you can use me' and over the years, everything has gone. However, I really need to get rid of two old fence panels (which won't fit in the car to dispose of them myself) but Lewisham won't let me pay them to have the panels collected (they've said I should hire a skip for them) and yet if I were to report myself for flytipping they'd be collected free of charge...!

Maybe I should list my fence panels in the online skip?!

We've got rid of pretty much anything we've wanted to using freecycle!

Fence panel problem solved; my husband paid some random people with a rubbish-collecting van to take them away!

My nice workman had his ladder stolen after leaving it in our front garden for about ten minutes; we've also had chairs taken that we'd left out of the garage mid clear-up. :x

I've never heard of so much bare-faced thievery as goes on round here!!

You'll all have read about the copper gas pipes that were stolen twice, well....just round the corner from me, a guy came home from work on his motorbike, secured it etc....half an hour later a white van pulled up, 3 blokes got out & loaded the bike into the van & drive of!! At 7pm in broad daylight! Unfortunately for them, the bike had an alarm :P that started to go off loudly, and the police caught them because of this!
Moral: always alarm your bike!

And my neighbours tell me about all sorts of other stuff that's been going on - lots of house robberies. Where are these people coming from??

I passed a house yesterday where the owners had left the box of a large flatscreen tv on the pavement, obviously for collection by the bin lorry today, however it strikes me as somewhat of an unintended advertisement that they now own a large flatscreen tv.....should any would-be burglars be wandering around looking for such things!
