Hey I have heard that there will soon be a bistro/cafe opening in Hither Green, soon. do you think it will get local support assuming the food is good?
In the meantime if you're looking for somewhere local that does good food check out the Matahari on Springbank Rd. This is the hidden gem of Hither Green.
The Cooper Locke Gallery on HG lane ( number 132?) has opened and is an absolutely gorgeous space, really relaxing and some fabulous original art and interesting prints. It's also a cafe, a really nice place to relax with a cuppa and a slice of cake. Hither Green lane finally has a cafe that serves delicious coffee!! Definitely worth a look.
I've always thought that any enterprising person who would open a decent sit in restaurant on Hither green lane would make an absolute killing! Somewhere serving good homestyle cooked food would be so welcome. There's also the idea of a community restaurant run by a pool of volunteer chefs serving a limited menu on certain days of the week , much like the Bonnington Cafe in Vauxhall..
I found the Cooper Locke gallery today, and had a very enjoyable chat with Carré, the lady who runs it. Yes I agree - some super art in there, and the shop isn't completely set up yet. I even saw something my son might like, but I'll have to consult him as art is such a personal thing. There's also some fabulous handmade jewellery! Well worth a visit, folks!
